THE CURTAIN HAS FALLEN :-( Roll up! Roll up! ALL THIS WEEK everyone aged 5 to 11 years old - from the most experienced actor or musician to the most stage-shy - was welcomed to join the Showstoppers! cast and uncover the great news of Jesus !! With craft, songs, games - and the gunking of a leader or two (!) - they came to see the curtain lift each day between 10am and 12.15pm on the greatest show on earth – God's great plan for salvation ! Read on to see what we got up to: Day 1 - Creation (Bible Focus: Genesis chapters 1 to 3) Curtain up and we started the week by looking at God's big plan for His beautiful world. How He was disappointed that His creation (the world) was ruined and people were disobedient. But He continued His creating and saving work and sent His only son to take the punishment for everyone's wrongdoing. To see pictures of quizzing, crafting, messing .....and general crazy fun, please click here. Day 2 - David & Goliath (Bible Focus: 1 Samuel chapter 17) Today we learnt how trust and obedience go hand in hand. David stepped out in faith and obediently trusted God - even when the opposition was LITERALLY HUGE (Goliath was 9 foot 9 inches (3m) high!). We learnt that, like David, when we trust in God, we too can be part of God's big plan and do amazing things. We also had our starlets attempting to feed their crew leaders jelly whilst blind-folded(messy!), some very "interesting" auditions in "Search For A Star" (our daily drama) and our first crew gunking of the week. (Unfortunately our star photographer was unavailable to capture these today .... but thankfully.... tomorrow.... "He'll be back !") To see pictures of our starlets getting crafty today, please click here. Day 3 – Daniel in the Lion’s Den (Bible Focus: Daniel chapter 6) Today we learnt about Daniel - how although he was under threat, he still stayed true to God, who even saved him from being eaten by lions! This showed us that we should keep following God in all situations, because He always hears and helps us when we call on Him. Our starlets also started to decorate their dressing rooms, received some Goliath prizes, had fun seeing “How Low Can You Go”, the first three teams performed their tunes in our Search for A Star Theme competition and the Phantom Gunker struck again! PHEW! For pictures of all the action, please click here. Day 4 – Christmas (Bible Focus: Luke chapters 1 & 2) Today we learnt how God came to earth in His only son, Jesus. We learnt that by doing this and living among us as a human being, it shows he can identify with us and really knows and understands our worries and cares. Our starlets also had flour-tastic fun in the Christmas Pudding challenge, decorated their own festive candles and the second three teams performed their tunes for a chance to go through to tomorrow’s Search for A Star Theme competition final. For pictures of all the sparkly fun, please click here. Day 5 - Act 1 - Easter (Bible Focus: Luke chapters 22 to 24) The final day (boo!), but the action-packed fun just kept coming (YEAH!) Today we learnt about the astounding truth that Jesus died and came back to life, completing God's awesome rescue plan - the death and resurrection of Jesus was the ultimate part of God's plan to bring people back into direct friendship with Him. Our starlets also went crazy for our big egg hunt, made chocolate nests (yum!), the final winner was crowned in our Search for A Star Theme competition and the Director could escape the Phantom Gunker no more! For our curtain call of pictures, please click here. Then later.... Day 5 - Act 2 - Family Fun Night & Quiz On the evening of our final day, we invited the starlets to bring family and friends to a night of showcasing everything from the week, be entertained by an amazing juggler, enjoy some yummy food and pit their wits in a family quiz. To see a few photos of the evening, please click here. Sunday Service For those who couldn’t make it to the family evening (or even if they did!), there was one final lifting of the curtain during the family service on Sunday 14th August at 10.30am. Lots of fun was had by all! Can’t Wait For The Next Holiday Club? Whilst holiday club may be over for another summer, why not join us at Saltmine on Friday evenings during term-time, when it returns on 16th September – please click here for more details. |
